Questions for Dana

What are you most passionate about?

The thing I am most passionate about is helping Kent to continue being a great place.  We have so much to be proud of and build on. We need to continue to build strong communities. Continued economic development will bring jobs and services to Kent. If people can live and work here they will be more invested in their community. This helps build stronger and safer neighborhoods. Along with that comes a sense of pride and ownership.

What goals do you have during your term?

During my term I hope to continue to focus on development that is beneficial to both business and citizens. We need to be cognizant of existing citizens while making development desirable business. We have great programs through our Parks Department and private organizations to help attract families and business alike. Again business brings a need for new services. They compliment each other. When people can live where they work, they save money. In this economy, this becomes a selling point for potential employers. It also provides a built in customer base for services (shopping, restaurants etc.).

What sets you apart from others running for Council?

There are several things that set me apart from my opponents. First, I have a long track record of service in this community. I have served on the Land Use and Planning Board for over 7 years. This gives me a solid understanding of the development process in Kent. I have been a part of the Long Term Planning process. I also have served on the Arts Commission for 6 years.   I have been involved in bringing outstanding performances and visual art to this community.  I have been involved in the local school district and volunteered with Kiwanis.

I am a small business owner.  I understand how a budget works and the importance of working within that budget.  I am aware of the core services a city needs to provide and believe that needs to be the focus of the dollars spent.  Being a business owner, I understand that tough choices need to be made to ensure continued viability.  It is no different with city government.  Tough/unpopular decisions have to be made to ensure services can continue to be provided.  I  have lived in this community my whole life. I have watched Kent change and grow. Having a solid perspective on where we came from helps in designing where we want to go.   Finally, I am passionate about this city. I want to work towards responsible government. It benefits us all.

Why should I vote for you?

You should vote for me because I am the best candidate for the position. I bring a unique blend of experience and passion for the job. I am fiscally responsible and am not afraid to make difficult decisions if that is what is required. I have an understanding of the issues facing the city because I am involved in the community on many levels. I have the perspective of business owner, 3rd generation resident, parent and volunteer. I am able to see the issues from all sides and make decisions that are best for the city as a whole.

Please feel free to contact me for any questions!  I look forward to hearing from you!
